- Tools Needed:
Masking tape, exacto-knife, scissors, and a soft
plastic (credit card or ruler).
- Clean &
Dry: Make sure the surface is clean and free of
dust or cleaning residue. First wipe down with a damp cloth,
and allow to dry completely. Any moisture or residue on
the surface may prevent your decal from sticking.
- Set-Up:
Wall decals are for one-time use only, so take your time
choosing the perfect spot. First tape the unpeeled design
to the surface with masking tape, step back and have a good
look. You can’t change your mind once it’s up
on the wall.
- Make a Hinge:
Once you position your decal on your wall, run
a long strip of masking tape along the middle of the decal
and stick it onto the wall. This will make a hinge in the
middle of the decal.
- Take Off
the Backing Paper: Fold the decal in half (at the
hinge) and peel away the backing paper from the top of the
decal. Cut the backing paper at the hinge (with scissors
or an exacto-knife) and slowly smooth out the decal onto
the wall with your hand, starting from the hinge.
- Do It Again:
Once the top portion of the wall decal is on, do
the same thing for the bottom portion (below the hindge).
Slowly remove the tape hinge and carefully remove the backing
paper from the bottom. Starting from the middle of the decal,
use your hand to spread out the rest of the graphics onto
the wall.
- Apply Pressure:
Using a flat edged surface, like a masking tape roll, squeegee
or credit card, rub against the wall decal a few times just
to make sure your decal is 100% attached, flat and bubble
free. Once you are satisfied with the flatness, slowly peel
off the transfer paper at 45 degrees or less, corner to
corner. If some of the graphic remain stuck to the transfer
paper, just stop & give it a quick scratch to secure
it to the wall before peeling again,
- Be Happy:
Be Happy! Discard the tape, take a step back and
admire your work.
- Aligning
Decals
Some larger decals are made in multiple pieces for easier
handling and installations. Decals with multiple pieces
will have dotted lines to indicate where the pieces have
to be cut around with scissors. Once you cut around the
pieces, take them and roughly align them together on the
wall. Tape the pieces onto the wall with masking tape so
they stay on. Change the position if needed. Once you are
satisfied with the position of the decal, align the aligning
pieces together as best as you can and install the decal
(Please note that vinyl should overlap slightly).
- For Easier
Alignment: When aligning a larger piece,
cut out the aligning pieces from the main piece and align
them individually.
